This is whats going on back here in our corner today... No matter the cold these kids are outdoors...:)
It looks like a blast!!
I never last long outside these days! They bundle for the occasion and then we see them indoors now and then heating up more hot chocolate and playing some games in the basement! Cousins join in the fun most everyday and we love that they have the opportunity to play together during all the different seasons!
Winter is such a BLAST around here yet I think that same thing during the summer months to!!
School is canceled for the day. At first it was a two hour delay then a little while later the second call came in and school was canceled for the whole day. After the call you'd have thought I'd snuggle and and sleep some more... It would have felt good BUT I decided to keep my schedule. I did enjoy the quiet dark house a little longer this morning as I watched the snow fall!
Dave left the house early to catch a flight to Atlanta...
His foot is still in a boot. He cannot apply any type of weight to it. He still travels. He took his crutches with him and I'm guessing he will be ready to be home again by the time his plane lands this evening! He has this cool scooter thing he uses around the house but its not the best to pack up and take with him so he uses crutches most times when he is not here or at his shop office.
He is in Atlanta for the day checking out an investment opportunity that's going on there. Last week has had him on the phone so much and doing all the research he can along with all his normal daily other stuff he does... Winter will move fast for him because he sure hasn't slowed down to much yet..:)
The wind is crazy!... Its freezing!! You won't believe it but a few of the kids just came in and made pasta, they covered it with foil, took it to the waiting golf cart and off they went to the frozen pond to eat it there!!... If I'd force them to be outside they'd call it torture!...:P
It seems all we want to do these days is take hot baths, keep handy the lip moisturizer, drink hot drinks, read books and play games! Its definitely winter time!!
The "New Year" is here!
I love the feeling of starting fresh in a brand new year! I always have these things I want to accomplish in the coming new year and there are always things that I didn't complete in the past year.
Reflecting on the past year we have had challenges yet so many blessings!
Its hard to put into words the challenges that came along with finding a new normal at the church where we have been attending. We do love the ministry team there and we are connecting with other families slowly.
It has gotten us out of our comfortable box in so many ways. I still can't get over how much life changes when you change churches after being in the same one for twenty years!
Names and faces are starting to get better for me. Being the shy/quiet not so much of a people person type that I am it seems to be taking ages to know who everyone is and where they belong... so on and so on! We have been blessed in so many ways. Jordan has a few youth friends he connects with now.
We have been put on the "food committee" for the year ahead. This will be a stretch for us. Yet in a good way. This may be a jump start to get to know names, stories and faces better.
I took for granted that going to the same church for so many years meant we all knew each others stories and journey. We kind of knew who was struggling with what and we knew most ALL the faces that came through the doors... If we didn't know the face we "somehow" made a connection and then somehow the face never even felt like a stranger at all!
Not the case anymore... I feel sometimes there are strangers all around now during our Sunday morning Worship. Strangers can seem scary to my type that likes all things comfortable but its been good and God is GOOD all the time and ALL the time God is GOOD!
I also like to think that Jesus was surrounded with strangers so often to. When following his journey its so easy to tell he was stretched and challenged. Its hills and valleys in every area of life on this earth yet as long as we know who it is that walks beside us and takes hold of our hand we will reach our destination safely and the journey we traveled will seem like a speck comparing to eternity.
Jenika was working on a school project last night. She is real last minute girl that comes in "screeching in sideways" just like her father so many times! I was up helping her with homework way to late last night!! It was 10:30ish when we finished the last "Revolutionary War" card! She was to do twenty of them plus one of herself. With a photo, date of birth and death, A few facts about the person all written out on the index card. (making note that the printer we use is at Dave's shop office so we send everything out there to him to print and bring home. I was sending him her stuff to print as fast as she could work... before he comes home. He was late coming home and still didn't get them all printed out!) Be nice with a bit more notice next time Jen...:)
She struggles with spelling, the simplest of words don't come easy for her. She is not a fast writer. She has many many gifts and talents and she does well in school but what we were working on just took so much time and its something she should have been doing over weeks or days not hours!
Anyway her and I had a snack late last night after we were done and she did finish well although with a sore writing hand and a sore neck...:) I was the looker up person and speller...:) Thankful for Internet to do fast research...:)
The Christmas tree got hauled back out of the house yesterday. I love the Christmas season and the fun seasonal things we add to the house to make the season feel "real and alive" just like Jesus. I love the smell of the real pine tree. I love the fun afternoon we spend to get the tree up and adding all the personal tree ornaments we have collected over the years is great!
BUT... We never keep the tree up to long after Christmas. When the New Year rolls around and the tree starts to drop more and more pine needles I get the urge to take it away real fast. I always like to declutter everything along with taking down some of the Christmas decorations. It seems Christmas vacation has things just gathering up in every corner! Things get neglected as we party on...;)
It really did seem like a longer Christmas vacation this year then other years. I think it was because Dave was home so much and I just kept things slow paced and low key. We did a lot of out of the ordinary things and when he was sitting around here I just sat more to...:) And eat goodies!! Seriously we lived up Christmas vacation to the fullest!...:)
The cleaning got done real good today (or as good as it can with wet snowy kiddos in and out,,, I really didn't mind though because watching the fun they were having made it all fine and I didn't blame them at all for needing to come inside to warm up!
The carpet shampooers come tomorrow now. We only do this every few years and they do all carpets from the basement to the attic! It always feels nice to have clean carpets but it will especially this time since we have Jazlyn and her accidents and the big boys brought Sasha's puppies inside way more often then should have been allowed! I have been cleaning way to many messes off the carpets lately!!
The NEW Year...
I like these verses out of Isaiah...
We never know what the New Year ahead will hold for us. We make goals and strive to reach them. We live each day believing it to be a gift. "God gave us the gift of life: it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living it well"
HaPPY NeW yEAR!!
ps. Dave's flight has been delayed because of blowing snow. Jordan needs infusion. We are having challenges with his insurance like we often do with his MarketPlace insurance at the beginning of a new year. The pharmacy can't send his shipment of antibodies because the insurance terminated his plan for a reason we don't know. MarketPlace shows his account as "still active" yet the holder says to me each time I call (its been weeks now) "I'll be sure to send this case down to the desk of my supervisor and she will look it over"...over and over again! Round and round we go on the phone these past weeks! We are thankful for his insurance yet this Government run stuff can be so challenging! I talk to recordings and get put on hold. I get cut off half way into the conversation and have to start all over! After I waited in line to be answered for half an hour! As soon as I'm off here I give him his very LAST infusion (we normally have four infusion treatments in his bag at once) I start to get nervous when we run this low... If you could whisper a prayer for Dave's safety and Jordan's medication shipment to roll forward fast I'd be grateful tonight.
Its getting even more cold and BLUSTERY tonight!!!
Stay warm!!!
