Braces, Cooking Classes...

So it is still winter!

I love this slower pace that comes with this season!

We have had so much cold snow and ice already this January! The school schedule was all over the place as we had delays, early dismissals and all days of no school!

I'm one that likes to process things so I must admit that these type of school hours throw me for a whirl most times...:)

I try to include the kids in on the house chores I had planned for the day and they do do a great job at helping me! We have been going through stuff in every room and closet and it feels great!!

Jordan had his room painted by my dad last Saturday!! He loves his "Eagle Room"!! It is so much darker in his room now! Not the colors I would have picked but it is so him and I love this part!! And I love that he loves it! It really gave his room a whole new feel!

Thanks to dad Jordan now has Eagles Green and Gray on his walls!!...

Jenika has gotten her braces on... She is adjusting okay but her personality will have no time for this nonsense and I can tell she will not appreciate this at all!!...;} She also has a house brace she needs to wear to realign her jaw. This is a pain but I know she will be thankful later that she was brave.

Her selfie photo...:)

She removes the house brace to eat and for school. She is to brush four times a day! Oh Boy!

She was super nervous about this appointment and her teacher knew it so she got her class girls to lay hands on her and pray for her yesterday before I picked her up. It was precious as I heard her yesterday... she told her Orthodontist... "I was so nervous but then my teacher had the girls in my class lay hands on me and pray for me and then I was more confident after that." His eyes got wide and he looked at me with a grin as he said "Really?" His comment was "Well we can all use all the help we can get!" Love her to pieces!!...:)

Today I start a cooking class at school.

Once Javon was in school everyday I was alone more. I wanted to find ways to stay involved at school where the kids are...:)

I volunteered in Javon's classroom until this year because they now have a full time aid and I didn't need to go in anymore. I missed it but I still keep plenty busy and I wondered this year "How would I find the time even if I'd want to?"

Well I decided to teach a cooking class for this quarter of clubs. I have fifteen students from grades 5-8.

I have so much to learn as I step into this! I want to teach them kitchen skills they will use for a lifetime and not just occupy them for a few hours...

Like how to properly cut and apple. How do you properly hold a rag during clean up and how important is it to use hot soapy water when cleaning up the grease you leave behind...:) What for cook wear will we use? Cast iron vs Teflon demo. So many ideas but how it will all go is beyond me...:)

As I stroll through old and new photos I noticed my kids are in the kitchen! Everyday!! They know how to do the kitchen! They do it well as they get comfortable! I don't even think about it because its just what we do here. I wonder how other homes do with this?

Do you have patience to let your little ones do their own thing in your kitchen? I'd be curious.

Here are some old photos I pulled up and I still just love to look at the tiny bare feet on the counter top!! ..:)

They grew so quickly and they are more in the kitchen now then ever!... I LOVE this!!

I know my family could make awesome meals in my absence!! This is something I don't ever want to take for granted!!... The clean-up... This may or may not be another story...:)

Have a great day!!
