Mom went to church with us Sunday morning to!... I thought it was the perfect day for this! We went to Lavern's for host lunch where we had lunch and fellowship with some church friends and also some of my dear Dienner uncles and cousins...:) The day was so warm and sunny which topped it off!
My Special Mom and I...
My mom is in a busy stage of life, yet she takes time for us. She takes care of Grandma Beiler and has a job at Bird in Hand Laundry as many hours as she wants during the busy season. She makes this stage of life look fun and she is very independent. I guess I get it from her....:)
As I now raise my own four children I have come to appreciate mom more and more!!
Thanks mom for all you have done for me over the years! You were always so good at letting us help along (as little girls) with whatever you were doing, weather it was in the kitchen or outside work, you just let us help, and you did it with patience to. I have learned to let my children help along to even if it would be so much easier to do it myself many times! I'm not as patient as mom though.
I'm reaping some benefits of that now to with my big boys baking and even making supper!... they love it! (at this point they still do anyway...:})
Story time was a daily thing in my home growing up. My mom and dad read countless stories to us children, we were a rather calm family, I have come to realize. We played with dolls and Barbie dolls for hours! We rarely even considered running in the house! Not that we weren't allowed but that just wasn't our type of fun...:) We had real deer to play with since my dad raised them... This was a huge childhood highlight!
Mom had three girls for years and we were always dressed neatly and even the same most times...:) We had our hair combed and faces washed everyday after breakfast! My mom was neat and organized and I have come to appreciate this....:) Allen came along eight years after Kath and he introduced us to the balls and pony's and all the other boy stuff!! I had four years at home with this little guy and loved it that I had a baby brother!! I wish I had had more years at home with him!
My mom comes to my house some but she is not required to come help me with my work. I see myself as independent when I'm her age and I like to see her doing what she wants to do. I look at it like "She has done those days". I like to need her yet I don't want to depend on her. She babysits some but I have always had other sitters, even when my children were small. I like to ask mom first but I have come to appreciate honesty and at times it is just to much for grandma! I needed Rachel Ann so I not need to stress out grandma...:) My kids have come to love them both as sitters!!
Mom is still wonderful at taking time for us, she comes to sit with Jordan on infusion days! He has come to appreciate her for this! Thanks Mom!!
My house here now with my rowdy bunch is nothing like my own childhood, we have found our own style here. It took time to adjust but having boys first didn't give me a choice but to do things different... Running in the house became a norm from the beginning and playing with dolls is still way to boring for this family! (at least for our princess)
We like to fly airplanes and drive fast four wheelers! We like to play really rowdy loud type stuff, like shooting each other with air soft guns and rubber bands!!... So it is with my kids and I have come to adjust and get used to it... I'm glad for my big house with my own big master bath because at times during the winter months this is my quiet haven!! I'm not natured for the rowdiness but I have come to realize my kids personalities are different then mine and I seem really boring to them at times, my kind of fun is different from some of theirs (and daddy's) ...:) At times thinking back to my own childhood I just have to grin as to what I put up with some days! (slobbery big dogs! :o)
Getting into marriage and then children is an adjustment for man and wife! Dave and I learned a lot about each other that we didn't know once Justin came along! We both had our own ideas of how we would parent and discipline. It was rough at times. Looking back I see so many mistakes that I made with mixing into Dave's way. I am often inconsistent and lenient. He is structured with a plan and he follows the plan no matter the circumstance... My kids know that some whining might change mom's mind, but not dads...:) I have come to really appreciate my husband and often my way ends up over on his lap once I see I can't handle this after all...:} Sorry Hon!
I am learning as I continue on this mothering journey, I still don't have it down pat for sure!! I just "Love" the kids with my God's help and ask him for guidance everyday, just to be the mother they need in this one and only childhood that they get. I want to follow my husbands leading as he follows God's, I want to trust him with the big decisions... (Not always easy for us wives) Being a wife of a hard core business man this journey has been rough at times. I wanted to tell him how to do things. I wanted him to change some of his ways that I have come to now see as his strengths.
The stage we are in is fun. We have been married over sixteen years now and we have learned so much about each other. We have come to appreciate each others strengths in this parenting journey. The children need both of us. It would not go so well if Dave and I were both the same. I'm the soft emotional one here and he is the one they respect most. They come to me first because they know I will probably say yes...:) When I say "Ask Dad" they often already know the answer...:)
Don't let me paint the wrong picture for you here. Dave is not strict and the kids love him!! He takes time with them even when he has so many other things waiting his attention! I would not want to be on this parenting journey without him and I thank God everyday for him and for the fact that he has brought us "this far" on this parenting journey together! And we are even still in Love!...:)
I love being a "Mother" and the calling is an honor... I saw this quote and thought I'd share it... Being a stay at home mom is a privilege in this day and age that we live in, I wouldn't want to trade it for any other job out there... Even if it is a twenty four hour, seven days a week job, it is still the biggest BLESSING to me!!...
Don't you just treasure the special notes and "Mother's Day" gifts...??
Here are mine from the Little's...:)
Jenika gave me this flower in a pot, I told her she can plant it wherever she wants to... She chose the back yard, real close to the porch. We will watch it grow and I will treasure it for sure! It also has a tea bag for a cup of tea...:) Maybe I'll enjoy my tea on a chair right next to this lovely flower...:)
Javon brought me this basket from preschool... it had a flower tucked inside to...:) He also gave me some scrub soap he was saving from his Sunday School class...:)
Last evening we went to visit my parents for "Mother's Day" Kath and her family were there to. Then we made a stop at Dave's parents for a "Mothers Day" visit where they had the campfire going on already! Nelson's were there also. We consider it a blessing to have Godly parents to look up to and we don't take our Christian childhoods for granted either! We also have both parents living within five miles of us!! How great is that?
I'm all alone today since Javon has another "Lunch Bunch" day at school...(school until 1:45)
I plan to go outside to enjoy the sunshine while working on another pile of wood chips... Looks like we are in for a rainy rest of the week so I'm off to get outside today while I can... Baking bread was on the list for today but since it looks like rainy days ahead I think that fits better for one of those days...:)
The boys had a blast at the mountains!! Tons of fish and a turkey, plus all the stories to go with it!! I'll do a post on that trip sometime soon...
Have a Blessed Day...
