| Oh how I love to see the beauty through their eyes! |
With the three guys hunting last weekend the Little's and I had lots of quality time together!
The hunters did not get any deer this time. Jordan had a nice shot at a nice buck but his gun clip was not in all the way and when he went to pull the trigger his gun made a noise to scare the deer off but didn't go off! He was sick about it but he has learned a valuable lesson during the process. Things like this will make him a better hunter...:)
I sent them off with a few huge breakfast casseroles... They take about twenty shop prefab guys up to the cabin every year the first weekend of buck season. They make drives through the woods, play games late into the night and eat well. This crew looks forward to these few days every year!
These took ages to assemble! I do this breakfast for them every year and every year I think (and say) I'm not doing this again but I always do because they like it so much...:)
Jenika and Javon so enjoyed making some fun ornaments....
We canned 87 quarts of venison over the weekend!!
This stuff is so handy!! Today's lunches included wild rice, spaghetti squash, mushrooms, onions, venison with cheese on top!...:) It is endless what we can do with this lean canned meat. All I do is drop it in the jar add some pink salt and water bath it for three to four hours. It comes out so tender and tasty! Jenika likes her meat in with pasta. We add bone broth for nutrition and she only gets a certain kind of pasta that I find at Wegman's but she would live off of this if I'd let her!
We bottled Kombucha...
We made cookies to!...
Ginger was back and this girl was thrilled! She had her eating carrots out of her pocket when I was down at the barn one time!...
You won't believe it when I tell you but I will anyway... Last night Dave and Jordan went down to the barn to put away the 100 pound sack of chicken feed that Jordan could not lift alone on Saturday. It was dark. Dave opened the gate to take the sack through and as a quick after thought he told Jordan "Make sure the pony don't get out"! About that time here comes Ginger full speed and out the gate before Jordan could swing it shut! Dave went after him on the four wheeler and they thought they had him going in when he took off the other way again at full speed! This guy can run like mad when he sets his mind to it!!
Dave was on his tail with the four wheeler when he slipped on the driveway. The wheeler kind of went up over Ginger and Dave went tumbling as did the wheeler! The four wheeler is light and did no harm to Ginger as he took off leaving Dave picking up the pieces and trying to catch his breath!
Jordan was down holding open the gate and saw and heard the four wheeler go tumbling then the lights went out! He started to call loud to his dad but there was no answer! He ran up to him and Dave was trying to catch his breath. I think he fractured ribs and he hurts worse then he ever did as soon as he moves to do anything! Getting into the Epsom Salt bath and into bed had him yelping in pain! I feel so bad for him!! We are headed to see Doctor Steve this evening but I'm sure it will take time to heal and this injury is simply so painful! He sneezed last night and hardly could catch his next painful breath!!
As for Ginger Dave and Jordan were out spotting for at least an hour and half last night! Dave was in pain but he felt responsible. I called 911 to let them know Ginger is on the loose. They called me back about half an hour later and said a small horse had been struck up on 30! It was a mini van but I guess there wasn't much harm done and Ginger again took off! Seriously nine lives!
Today I drove around asking at farms. I went back to where Ginger was found last time. Dave and Jordan were also there last night. I'm thinking if we want Ginger to not run as soon as the gate goes open a crack we might have to get him a companion. When Jonathan's had a pony at there barn Ginger never went farther then that if he got out. With kids around and a dog and chickens in the same meadow its a pain that she comes charging to the gate every time it gets open for anything!
Jenika again went to sleep last night with tearful prayers on her heart! She is so sad! Dave says as soon as she is grown and gone he vows to send every single animal we have with her! We struggle to keep Sasha here to and when she was chasing deer the Monday morning of buck season (we were at the cabin) when the neighbors were trying to hunt it just about put Dave over the edge! She is now penned up in the meadow to until we can figure out how to keep her here and not out chasing deer with Jonathan's dog!
The birds again got the back porch for the winter and I love to see the flurry of activity as they come to my homemade bird sanctuary...:)
The garden is still giving us greens! This is simply the best! I bought some spinach the other day because mine is getting thin and its just not the same! I also love to use pomegranate fruit these days! It adds wonderful flavors to greens... Eating healthy does not have to be boring...
This morning Jordan got himself and the Little's on the bus as I headed out early yo take mom to a Doctor appointment. We did breakfast out and enjoyed doing some Christmas shopping on the way home. It feels like much gets done when you are at a Lancaster Doctor appointment by eight o'clock in the morning! It always feels like such a BLESSING to go with mom to her Doctor appointments and they send her away with good reports! It has been ten years now this Christmas that she fought breast cancer. We are so blessed to still have her! She fought the caner battle courageously and she is now a blessing to many others going through the same things that she went through on her cancer journey. I love days out like today with my mom! Love you mom!
Christmas shopping...~ Lets just say I'm behind. I don't care. I don't feel like shopping for Christmas gifts out among all the crazy... I'd rather just watch everyone else...:) Even as I sit here this afternoon to try to shop online its not flowing here either. Maybe I'll wait even longer to shop for that first gift!? I refuse to stress...:)
Christmas season looks busy... We do Christmas with the kids here Christmas eve. We do Christmas with the Zook family next Saturday. We do Christmas with my side of the family Christmas day. We do Christmas with Mommy Dienners family next Sunday (this is a drop in afternoons) This week is the Christmas school program and the Stoltzfus banquet. Next week is the Horizon banquet. We love all the action packed Christmas fun and we are so very BLESSED to have so many loved ones to celebrate this Christmas season. Jesus is the reason for the season and as we go about the next few bustling busy weeks let us breath deep and remember the real meaning of the season!
This is Christmas.... Saturday evening Dave and I went out with Jonathan and Marilyn and Michael and Kristen. We ate at the Lancaster Brewing Company in Lancaster. Michael wanted to pay the bill when we were done so the waitress took his credit card. She came back a few minutes later and said somebody else had picked up or whole tab! Because its the season of giving! It was a pay it forward kind of thing! We all sat there with our mouths hanging open as the waitress told us this... she even wiped tears!
We went to Michael and Kristen's home afterward where the guys played a game of Aquire. Justin and Eva had brought Chick Fil A here for the kids and they played some Monopoly with them while we were out..:)
I'm off to try my mood at online shopping again...:)
Have a BLESSED week as you enjoy the Christmas spirit in the air! Be a BLESSING! Pay it Forward. Be the hands and feet of Jesus. Notice the lonely and give them your time. Notice the hurting and be a listener. Everywhere we go people need Jesus... Let him shine through you today!
