Three Bucks Down...

Cabin life came to an end after we got in last night.

I drove the school children home after the hunt and evening meal last night. Ashley and Martina came with us to so Marilyn didn't have to come home last night. They spent the night here with Jenika in her room then we dropped them off at there school on the way to ours this morning. The ride home went fast with Jordan in my front seat chatting to me. Aw yea our music was really loud on the way home to. I found out you can never play music to long or to loud for young people! It kept me awake anyway...:)

Three Bucks down and lots of action packed fun is what our Monday hunts consisted of!

We have lots of property at the cabin with lots of tree stands. With all the ground to cover I was put into a tree by myself this year. (not near as fun as hunting with one of the boys!) It was better to have more tree stand space but I missed a hunting buddy...:) One came my way and I shot it!

He dropped on the spot!!

I had a little snooze in the tree and I remember thinking "Jordan would be calling me unconcerned!"

I saw three bucks cross the trail. As they crossed single file they kept getting bigger. The last one was a whopper! It happened so fast, I never heard them coming, they were pretty far away yet I'm sure my guys would have had them...:) I missed it thinking "Oh well they will go down towards one of our other hunters" (sadly they didn't).

I was eating a clementine a little later with my one leg slung over the seat and my gun setting on the floor. I saw this deer coming down my way! I saw he had a rack! I quickly stuffed the last piece of orange in my mouth and quick got my gun up. He was looking up my way and I was sure he was going to see me scatter around trying to find him in my scope! I got him in there and tried to pick a good spot to shoot before I pulled the trigger! He dropped on the spot and he didn't really move after that!

Dave called me after I texted the group and said he had just shot at one to but wasn't sure he killed it. I got down and after snapping a picture of my buck to send to our group text I went Dave's way to see if I can kick up his buck and send it back his way. We didn't see it but when Dave came out of his tree and walked up the were it had been when he shot he saw clear sign that the buck was dead! It hadn't gone far at all and he was happy to see this nice buck down!...

We high fived and tug our deer. We were hunting pretty close to each other. Justin and Eva were in when we got back and just as Justin was taking his gun off his shoulder a bunch of deer came across the open field! He took off like a shot with his gun in hand!! Seriously I was amazed at his speed as he leaped over logs to find a rest for his gun close enough to the deer! Dave was running behind him giving him instructions as he ran but it was funny to watch as Justin shot off like that with Dave trying to keep up as he limped on his bad ankle!...:)

Justin did get a shot when he had a nice buck in his scope but when the deer stepped out from behind the tree he shot and hit the doe instead of the buck!! It was a real bummer for him as he saw the buck take off like a shot! (Jordan likes to make fun of his brothers hunting skills!...:}) He is a good shot and does enjoy the first day of buck season but this is pretty much the only day Justin is found hunting...:)

Jonathan and Marilyn both missed bucks on the power line. Jonathan had tiny little Hannah out hunting!...:) Marilyn went to shoot and she wasn't positioned right and the scope came back giving her a big gash at her eyebrow! It needed stitched and we were all croaking! She was about to pass out in her tree stand! Ashley was there and she called Jonathan to come quick! By the time he got there Marilyn was feeling okay but it looked nasty. She went out and got butterfly bandages and she is now wearing those in hopes the gash will heal without a scar!

The evening hunt... Eva shot one! It has horns... I think three or four small ones. Justin was snoozing as Eva Jane watched this thing for pretty long. She poked him and he looked and said its a deer yea but he didn't see horns. She seemed confident it was a buck so she shot!! Great job Eva Jane!!

These three deer will be off to the processor later today and I will be busy putting the meat in jars next week! We are happy and blessed to be a venison eating family! It is one of the leanest healthiest meats out there and it can be made many different ways! We love to get creative!

Today we think about school again. Jenika forgot her backpack this morning so I had to run to school twice today. We are looking forward to the eighth grade vendor party tomorrow! This is to raise money for the eighth grade winter missions trip.

I made eight gallons of chicken noodle soup today that will be sold at the food table tomorrow. The house smells like chicken! Come out to the school gym tomorrow to do some Christmas shopping! You will find many great deals at tables that will be set up with different things like Norwex. Pampered Chef, Osborn Books, Thirty One and lots more!!

December is right around the corner! Christmas is in the air! Shopping is being done and events are filling up the schedule!

Another deer hunting season comes to a close after this weekend (the guys head back up later this week!) and we are happy with the outcome! We love the cabin weekend away! It does feel nice to be at home on this much needed rainy day though. The laundry is done and the bags are unpacked. The days ahead look full of shopping and other fun Christmas ventures...:)

Keep the pace slow and soak up the season... Remember to "praise the one" who made the season of Christmas a reality.... We "get to" enjoy the beautiful sights, smells and tastes of all this season has to offer but at the same time let us not forget the true meaning of this season... Jesus! He deserves ALL our praise!!

Have a BLESSED week ahead!
