When you are ten years old and this happens to your young permanent front tooth its a big deal...
Javon had an injury to his mouth last night and most of today was spent visiting dentists.
Danny and Rachel Ann are building a house across the road from where our drive goes in and we couldn't be more excited to have them for next door neighbors!
It will take adjustment for the kids to see Rachel Ann and her kiddos across the street and not go running over each time they are out in their yard!...:) Sorry Rachel Ann! We might just be barging in in on you until we are used to seeing you over there...:)
Anyway Danny's have a fun swing set already set up in the yard where they will be building a house real soon. Javon was pushing Hannah on a stand up swing. She was going pretty high when she jumped off sending the swing up and back real fast hitting Javon just at the spot where his front top tooth was. He had a gash in his lip to but not deep enough to rush to the Urgent Care.
He had pain and sensation in his top broken tooth right away and after sending pictures to Dave's dentist friend (where we stayed when we were in Michigan) it was obvious the nerve was exposed and this would probably require a root canal and lots of future dental work as Javon grows.
He is to young for a crown or an implant.
He was under the care of an orthodontist already so this will change all the structure there.
This morning as soon as the dentist office opened we went to see our family dentist.
She had laid out all her root canal tools! I was praying against a root canal if at all possible!
(I hate the idea of keeping a dead body part in the body!) Anyway she took a closer look at the X-ray. She took more detailed pictures because she was worried about the procedure. To her it looked like his nerve had not close up yet (hence his age) and she didn't want to do the root canal if the nerve had not close up on the top like the tooth on the other side already had.
Phone calls were made and we went straight to West Chester to see a specialist.
He took more pictures and X-rays.
He went over all options and scenarios with me and I liked him right away!
He wants so badly for Javon to keep his tooth!
Javon is young. Kids this age heal fast. He has good healthy nerve up above the injury.
Dr. Lee says he is going to give Javons tooth a fighting chance to heal. He did only a partial root canal at the very bottom of the injury to clean it out and then he sealed it up.
The tooth is broken. More then half its size. Will the nerve heal and stay healthy? Will the tooth grow itself back? Best case scenario YES!
Pray with us! This could be a game changer for life!
The worse case Javon starts with pain in his top teeth and then a root canal is a must. The tooth will then eventually need capped when he is 16-18 and done growing. An implant cannot happen until closer to age 21.
The tooth will get a filler for now. Maybe next week when his lip and nerve heal a bit we will get a filler seal to make it look better. With his age this will probably keep falling off and need replaced until they can cap it properly.
We go back in six months for an X-ray to check the health of the nerve. We keep doing this to keep a watch and as long as Javon has no issues it has a chance to heal and repair on its own!
I know the body can heal itself and I'm guessing teeth are no exception? Today we choose to believe God was watching out for Javon in that dentist chair this morning when our family dentist didn't trust her own judgment!
Javon has been getting Novocaine shots at both dental offices this morning! The poor boy was numb all through his nose and mouth. He didn't eat a thing until one o'clock this afternoon but we are so THANKFUL for dental practises that are educated and know what to do in cases like these! The key is to get the injury sealed up so bacteria cannot enter. That is done. Now we wait on God's perfect timing to see the outcome of this incident.
He is such a BRAVE boy! As he squeezed my hand during the pain in the dentist chair with tears dripping out of the sides of his eyes I couldn't help but get watery eyes to because it is this very same tooth in my own mouth that also had an injury when I was a child. This same tooth in my mouth caused me so much pain and hassle over the years! I finally got my implant done after two tries but today I can still feel that it is not my real tooth in there. I'm thankful for my healing process but once the nerve is severed things in the mouth are never the same!
We know God has got this Javon!! You are adorable even with a broken tooth!! (he thinks he is ugly so if you see him make sure to tell him how great he looks!...:))
We are thankful big brother came home (he has a construction ball tournament starting this afternoon) early to get the mind off of the pain...
Life here on earth will bring bumps in the road... We are still so Blessed and Grateful Today!
