Yesterday was a fun filled day! Justin had a speech taking place at school in the morning. His class each prepared a 2-5 minute speech about a topic that they set out researching. It was interesting stuff! Justin's speech was on "Why we should not do drugs" They each had three main points about there topic. They got graded on how well they spoke in front of an audience. It had to do with posture, gestures, how fast they spoke, if they seemed comfortable and so on.
The other topics I heard were... "Why we should not eat at McDonald's" !! I sucked this one up...;)
Another... "Why physical exercise is good for the body" !! I liked this one to!! "Why we should not drink pasteurized milk" A good one to!! "Why Christians should not vote" This was very interesting... I always wondered where the ideas came from that "Christians should not vote" I now have a better understanding of it all but still have a different opinion. (We vote and still believe we are Christians)
I would have loved to stay longer and listen to some more but I had plans to have Jordan's class home for lunch so we snuck out soon after Justin's speech was over ( Dave had showed up for this to!)
Jordan's class came for lunch. I made spaghetti and meatballs also served apple sauce, Marilyn brought garlic bread. I was glad for my canned goods!! It helped me get this lunch together in no time and I didn't even have to run to the store!
I forget from one time to the next but this is a very loud bunch!! 18 students. They arrive with a race to see who can get to the food first!! They come storming in the door with a racket like no other!! They are LOUD until they leave!! Bless the teachers!! I was glad for the quietness again after this bunch left even though it was great to see them enjoy a day out of the school house setting. (always brings extra uncontained excitement!) I had a few batches of chocolate chip cookie dough mixed for them to put on trays and Miss King had brought a few different kinds already mixed and ready to be rolled into balls or cut with cookie cutters.
They did some caroling for some elderly folks today and handed out the cookies they had made. They each got to take a few home and they also had some left for the class party at school today. They had picked names and got each other gifts which they exchanged today.
This was the class in my basement yesterday...:)
| Trevor was at it longer then the other boys! |
After this crowd left I had offered to keep Hannah and Bryant for Marilyn while she finishes up her Christmas shopping. Bryant was tired, Javon and Hannah were playing so nicely, I let the basement in the mess it was, sat and rocked Brant, as he slept I read! It was so much fun and it felt good to rest my feet! I was still on the chair when Marilyn returned an hour later...:} I then had to get to the basement for the clean up but it was the perfect place for this activity!
Later after Justin got home from school he wanted to make "buck eyes" (something they had made at school this week) I helped him for awhile but we had to get out the door for our (third for the week) chiropractor appointment. We finished up the "buck eyes" after we got home last evening!
We will add these to the platters for the elderly we plan to assemble tomorrow...
The babies of course had to have there hands (or feet!:/) in the action to!
Justin likes to be in the kitchen but then he is known to leave a HUGE trail behind him! Lots of clean up in his wake! Oh well it is Christmas season so I let them in the kitchen as much as they want right now even though the last thing we are needing is more fattening food!
I so love this time of year though and we are truly blessed!! The doorbell has been ringing with neighbors dropping off goodies!! The mail carrier has been delivering goodies to! (pecans from Texas friends!) Chocolate covered ones!! Oh help they are my weakness! Dave has been bringing arm loads of goodies from the shop that come from dealers or neighbors down there! Fruit!! Pretzels, cheese galore!, chocolates, a ham,a great looking cake! (no baking dessert to take to my family Christmas party!) and some yummy "apple butter!" Thanks Heidi! So far I'm the only one who has discovered how good this stuff is!:}
Today was an out of the kitchen day here though! I had an early appointment in at Lancaster (ear) so I was out of the house before the kids this morning! Rachel Ann was here early to start the cleaning and watch Javon. She actually did the main floor cleaning all alone today! (so spoiled she has me!)
While I was out I made some last minute stops that always seem to come up even when I think I'm done on the road now! It was actually very fun and relaxing though because my stuff was only a few and as I watched other shoppers rush around I felt like I could just kinda relax and watch the hustle and bustle.....:}
Roxie told me they have "flower girl dresses" at JC Penny right now in the color she wants Jenika to wear at her wedding so while I was in that way I stopped and picked up a dress for her. It's darling but big around the neck. I had to get a bigger size so it's long enough in length but now we need to adjust the neck part. Rachel Ann is great at sewing and figuring it out so the dress got fit on Jen then got sent home with her to work with....(spoiled again!)
I'm out for my run before it gets dark... As I understand it's the first day of winter, that means the shortest day so I will be caught in the dark if I don't get out! Running in this cold wind does not enthuse me but I must keep up with these extra calories I'm consuming these days! I'm glad Christmas is only once a year...:)
Javon is looking forward to his "Daddy Date" tonight!:)
HAVE A FUN FILLED TIME PREPARING FOR CHRISTMAS!
