Infusion/Food Group Day

Today is infusion day for Jordan...

It's a lovely fall day! The temps are nice and warm again.

We are again packing the bags and the food boxes today. Our week has gone by so fast and we are already getting set to go to the Cabin again! We are excited to get hunting and family time in this week-end! Justin is taking a friend this time (Mikey) and the kids were told if they give Sasha a good bath then she can come along this time to!

Jordan was out hunting last night and he saw some bucks. He even passed up a five point! I thought a five point would be good for him but he said it was not a nice five point and it looked like a small one. He said it gave him a few good broadside shots but he decided to let him be. He then went out in his tree stand again this morning before school. He was out from six o'clock to seven thirty. He asked me this morning if he can hunt the evening hunt tonight or if he will be getting his infusion until dark?. I asked Nurse Coleen if she can start him earlier so he can get the evening hunt and it worked out for her, so he should be able to get out for awhile this evening. He is down there right now counting the minutes until he is done! He keeps asking Coleen "How long yet?" His love for hunting is so evident its funny...:)

Yesterday I had Jordan class here for the afternoon. They had a blast being outside of the classroom! The only thing I did was supply the place and the paper products and the room moms brought the lunch. I was able to get out and do yard work before they showed up for the afternoon and it was really a breeze having them since they all spent the afternoon outside!

I even served the lunch outside! I got a campfire burning and the porch was a perfect place to host this clan! It gave me "Summer Hosting Fever" (didn't think I'd say that this soon!)

The guys played football and the girls enjoyed the golf cart and trampoline. Thanks Mr. King for all you do for Jordan and his class.

Last evening I was feeling a run so I decided to run to the shop and meet up with Dave. It gave me five miles. I ran up along route 30 first, then in swan road. As I was running along "All of The SUDDEN!" there was this huge German shepherd dog (with horrid teeth) on me!! He have me no warning at all and he came out of nowhere! I'm terrified of dogs!! I think they know this! He nipped my leg and I had my jacket tied around my waist and he grabbed the one sleeve that was hanging! He yanked and growled as he pulled back and forth on my sleeve! I swapped him hard over the nose with my hand and he then nipped at that (which has a small purple bruise)! I was able to run backwards and get away from him finally but I thought about it later that I was so distracted by the dog that I forgot to watch the traffic! It was whizzing by me on the shoulder! What if the dog had pushed me out into the traffic!? One thing about running! I HATE the dogs! Dave knows this and when we run together he always gets between me and the dogs. Guess I will be running the opposite side of the road up there for now! Wonder what these people are thinking with letting a dog like this out!??

Today was Gluten Food sensitivity/support group day. It was fun to be together with the ladies that came out. We had a group of five today. It's always so interesting to hear the testimonies of the new people and what they have learnt so far. It seems people do realize that they feel so much better on "Real Food"! Many times it's just getting past the "unhandy/overwhelming" part of it as mom's! I think we have it so much easier then they did a hundred years ago so we have nothing to complain about, even if we do have to cut and chop up fruits and vegetables for every meal. We can just go to the store to gather all our supplies. I'd say we are to BLESSED in this day and age to feel sorry for ourselves!

Jordan made (last night after his hunt) us his type of brownies to share with the group today. I served fruit and Ruthie is so faithful at bringing something yummy to share! Today she had sweet potatoes and homemade coleslaw to share with us! Thanks Ruthie!! Linda was here and she stocked up our bread supply to!! People ask what we do for bread? For a long time we did without but we have been so blessed to discover a yummy bread that Jordan can have and that we all really like!! It's a black bean bread. It only has like four ingredients, it needs to be kept in the refrigerator but it is so yummy and we have gotten used to this. Jordan has bread everyday now! Toast, sandwiches, pizza bread. So much we can do with this bread! I did start to put cheese into Jordan's diet. We are going ever so slow but he seems to do fine on it so far. (organic, grass fed, real, white cheddar cheese only) Sandwiches and pizza are really not that without the cheese so we added a bit now and we are enjoying it in moderation!

We talked today about transferring our pantry to a healthier version. About adding and introducing foods. So what if they don't always eat it all, at least it gets introduced. Start by adding good foods then eventually it will squash out the bad. Add that fruit to that lunch box. If it don't get eatin add it again anyway, this time leave out the chips... Eventually they will eat the fruit...:) Even just a few bites is better then none.

I remember at first when I started cracking down on the unhealthy snacks around here. The kids would go to the pantry often! I'd hear the door go, often from another room and I'd kind of peek around the corner and watch them. They stood and looked into the pantry for a bit then the doors went closed again and they headed for the fridge to find something there.... Now when they want a snack it's to the fridge they go because they know they won't find to much in the pantry..:) They adjusted just fine and it's not even an issue anymore. It seems it's us mom's that miss those handy snacks more then the kids even do... It's so much more sticky now. Fruit needs to be washed and cut up many times. It's not like handing them some fishy crackers or chips and they are off! My Little's like to cut up there own fruit and make there own smoothies. So we deal with sticky all the time! (purple mustaches  to...:) Got Smoothie?? ) The other day Dave and I came to my computer to do something together and here lay two apple cores all brown and shriveled up...:/ He said "You put up with this?" I said "Well at least it was a healthy snack they were eating!"...:)

My guys have been enjoying a "Boys Club" most of the summer. They meet up with other dad's and boys and have a fun time. Often this summer these club meet ups took place down at Amy's pond. Now it's cold and they cut the meet up's from every week to once a month with taking turns to pick the topic. Last time they went bowling and they are eyeing up that trampoline place in Lancaster to do sometime to. They have a fun group of guys and the boys in our household have come to look forward to these meet up's. Tonight was Dave's turn to pick a topic. They are having movie night here. In the basement with popcorn and a movie... Think it might be odd of I'd join them since I'd be the only girl but I'm tempted...:)

I'm off to do more packing and pick up the deer meat that is ready for pick up! It will be in jars and on the cookers hopefully soon... We love venison and it is something that does well for Jordan! He loves to hunt and we are hoping he gets a buck this season yet! Maybe this week-end!?? He just seems to keep fighting off this cold! I'm hoping his infusion today will boost him up for the week-end again...

Have a BLESSED day.

Ps. We plan to wait until January to do another food support meet up. Keep in tune for the date. It's a busy next few months for many with the holidays and I hope to get more creative with different topics or maybe even watch a food DVD every now and then when we start up again in January. It really is rewarding to see people learn, get educated and just be in support together as moms. We are not the only ones struggling and it's worth fighting for for sure!
