Look at the adorable faces that we get to enjoy here for a bit today...:)
Javon loves to have friends over. Especially on his no school days! He gets so bored these days and he comes to me all the time with "How many minutes until the kids come home?" Most times I have to tell him "it's still hours Javon, not minutes" He has some snow make up days coming up at his preschool so he will have school the rest of this week. It seems since I started working outside and the warmer weather brought with it more spring clean up chores I don't just sit and read to him or play as many board games anymore. He loves to see his sister walk up the school trail and they spend the rest of the day outside! I often wonder how one would function to long without the other! They do everything together!
Today is very rainy and getting colder again. I'm a bit concerned about the flowers I planted since they are calling for a rapid freeze up on top of this rain this evening. We are happy to see the rain though since we seeded some grass seed here and there.
I'm not even sure where to begin with my garden!... I even have two more big piles since this picture was taken!
We have these enormous piles of wood chips piled up out there ready to spread but they are acidic when they are fresh and they need to set pretty long before you can actually put them on the garden among the growing seeds. I do have an order in for a large load of old aged ones but we might just end up tilling and planting like normal for this year then spreading the wood chips on in the fall? I have berry bushes that need planted as soon as possible to, I'm still not sure where they will go? We want to start some fruit trees to. My garden will definitely have a later start this year but I'm okay with that as we try to figure out the best way to start this new gardening style.
The edges got dug out around the flowerbeds and we are now ready for some fresh mulch. Not sure when I will get that ordered since it seems we have a few other projects that need done first. I just want to put my husband to work as soon as he gets home from work at the shop everyday! I forget that he was working all day and that he likes his space to....:) I just need man power for many of my projects and I can get a bit pushy at times until my projects are complete... (often never completely complete) Sorry Hon you can have your space back next winter again...!~:) Don't worry it comes around really really fast!...:)
We spent hours on Saturday dealing with the chicken coop! We cleaned it out, moved it after fixing flat tires and taking the run apart so we could move it better. Justin was on top on the roof screwing the cupola fast and Jordan was helping where needed to. We now have fifteen chickens again for the summer and we are looking forward to the fresh eggs from the coop!
Dave has a new job!! It seems so strange to see Matthew in Dave's spot at the desk when I take him his breakfast! He has been the dispatcher for the last ten years and he was so good at it! His job required lots of head work and brain power. He called himself the "whipping post" on many days! If anything went wrong along the line he took the blame and set about to calm the customer down the best way he could!
He was the one to call the customers to line up the shed delivery. He was the one that got the shed loads all coordinated for the drivers. He was the one that the drivers called if they had any type of problem delivering the shed, even if there often was no way to fix it over the phone! He still always had to come up with a solution! (this made for many one sided phone conversations for me any time of the day or night no matter what we were doing) His job was like putting together a really hard puzzle every day since they try to get a few sheds on the same load in the same general area for the driver. (The drivers like the sweet loads:})
Dave is great with town names and often when meeting new people he will know exactly where the town is that they are from! This is from his years in the truck hauling the sheds and then the dispatching to.
He has learned a ton from this job and he has loved it! He was the one who got up really really early in the summer time to load up the trucks so they can hit the road exactly at daylight to beat the curfews. He lined up permits for oversize loads. He has a permanent dent on the one side of his head from his phone headset he has been wearing for ten years! On the phone ALL day long!! Sometimes four lines waiting for his attention along with the notes being piled on his desk from the other office secretary's! His job was stressful yet he almost always came home in a good mood and unless he had a driver on the road that was having problems (which was pretty frequent!) he shifted gears for family time.
He began to get more into Real Estate and syndication deals in the past year or so. He started to realize that the job he has requires his full attention during the busy months. He realized he had to many other things going on to give this job all the attention that it needed. He has so many meetings which require time out of the office. He plans to bring more value to the business by doing more marketing. He has the Horizon Structures business that needs his time to even though he has a great office staff that he depends on so much!! And he wants to put more time into his latest thing... Real Estate Investing through Syndication.
I'm not sure how he feels some days at the office now. He is training Matthew how to do his job and I'm sure Matthew will have challenging days in this office spot as the new "whipping post"...:)
I take breakfast out to Dave and he is not always on the phone and he can actually really talk to me for a few minutes sometimes..:) Matthew is wearing the head set now! I was hoping it would heal his dent in his head but he ordered another set for himself even though I'm sure he will not need to be on the phone as much!... This is a huge step for me!! I didn't think the day would ever come that Dave wouldn't have to be the one up at four o'clock every morning during the busy months.(sometimes even earlier)
The one thing I didn't like about this job of his was the very early mornings. He had to get to bed earlier then we like to in the summer months if he wanted to get anywhere near enough of rest to function. During the school months I'm very particular about getting the kids to bed in time to give them plenty of rest for the school hours, (during these winter months Dave stays up late and I'm the one pushing him) during the summer we like to be outdoors until past dark and as you know this can get late in the middle of summer, then we even often come in dirty from work and play and need baths and get house clean up done yet, this was sometimes stressful to try to get everybody bathed and ready for bed even when it was sometimes still daylight so we can all go to bed together. I love it in the morning though when going to bed early so I guess we have advantages and disadvantages. It's that sometimes summer just does not seem long enough the way it is and when my Little's are out catching fire flies I just can't pull them in for baths and an early bed when they can sleep in in the morning, so sometimes Dave just went to bed without us! We had campfires already while he went to bed! His job required lots of rest and he never seemed to get enough of it!
I'm excited to say the least.... still we have been so blessed as well to be a part of the business that Papa bought when Dave was just a small boy. I love to watch these four brothers as they take pride in growing the business to accommodate the customer in this day and age. Time has changed the way that business is done. Papa had the days where you just picked up the phone and sold a shed. Word of mouth was great marketing! Today it takes creativity and these guys all get there brains working together and they make a great team. Dave loves to work along side his brothers and Papa. I love it to! Especially now you Matthew!!...Thank you Matthew for taking the stressful part of being the in between person from "the one who took the order to the customer" and then from "the customer to the driver". It takes head work and I will be your biggest fan! Don't give up even when you feel like it because I'm sure Dave don't want the job back EVER! (or maybe it's more me...:}) You will be a great dispatcher!!
Today is a bread day here and I also made Jordan some pumpkin muffins we have been eyeing up. They are really good. (watch for recipe in next post) I individually wrapped them up and put them way in the back of the fridge so they not be so tempting to grab and eat anytime he feels like it. It seems when something new and good agrees with him he can go overboard with it until it doesn't agree with him after all...:} It was also "Hot Lunch" day at school so I made him some baked potato shells filled with a chicken, shrimp and veggie mixture. It looked great and then he had his muffin and half a banana for dessert... He is doing great. Last night at the chiropractor we went over his plan again. Starting in May sometime he will be put on something different to seal up the leaky gut problem. This will take about six weeks and might require another strict diet. We are excited to see the healing process move to the next level.
Did any of you all get to see the eclipse or "Blood moon" early this morning? I set my alarm on my phone and I told the family if it is giving a good show when I look out the window I would wake them all up to see it to but when I awoke at one o'clock it was still a regular full moon in and out of the haze of cloud cover. At two o'clock when I awoke it was full clouds and slightly raining so I went back to bed without waking anybody up. I was okay with not seeing it...:)
It's my afternoon to run but the wind, rain, storm, cold and gloominess might have me putting it off for today...
I got new summer trainers last week...
These barefoot shoes gave me grief for a long time until my feet got used to them but now that I can run for miles with this shoe style I just can't go back to soles again! They feel so light and right for me and my running style. Dave wonders why I go back to these again and again....? I guess it's called a "love/hate" relationship...:) I want to put on many miles this summer so I downloaded an audio book app on my phone to. I get so tired of my music and I am not one to spend money to download music because I burn through it so fast! I just have to figure out why only one ear bud works on my phone!!?? Once I figure that out then I can download my first audio book!!...:)
I'm off to get the kids and make Justin his promised cheesecake since his "Jordan diet" ended yesterday! He is so happy about this!..
Spring will be back tomorrow...;)
For today it's like winter is teasing us again...
