Taking the time to blog here today has been a challenge amidst all the "Distracting" things I have going on today...:) I have been meaning to get on here before now because we had a memorable weekend and I want it recorded but I'm sure I'll miss much.
We have much colder weather here today! I got a five mile run in this morning and if I had any idea it was that cold and windy I probably would have slept longer, but I was out before I knew it was this cold and it was even snowing a bit. Since the mind game starts with getting out of bed and into the running clothes I figured by this point the hard part was over..:) It was a hard run though. Took me longer then I like and I was thankful for the kids "Hot Lunch" day at school today so there was no need to take the time to pack lunches... Thanks Hot Lunch Ladies!! This was such a treat!!
Some things we have going on here today... Bread was started early and is now baked and in the freezer, Laundry is caught up, Pie crusts are made and in the freezer to. Pumpkin canned. The two large ones that were setting on the porch for decoration are now in jars...(to make next weeks pie making easy as pie:})
Jordan's deer meat is canned...:) We got the butcher to get all the cubes that he could, we have some jerky slices (to make my own jerky soon:)) and then hamburger with the rest, which I plan to make burgers with tomorrow, then vac pack them for future use...;) We are planning to sample this meat for supper with mashed potatoes, (which were requested AGAIN!)
I was cleaning out some closets today to and we made a trip to the reuse it with two bags of clothes. Javon of course wanted to go inside and as he looked at the toys I found some prizes myself...:) Two really good bread pans (bread pans make a difference when making bread!!) three dollars each, six glass pie plates. I get tired of the foil ones. I found some cups for my cupboard, I never seem to have enough! My mom gets out paper ones every time she comes and it's OK while she is here but I hate seeing paper cups set all over the place and then throwing them out. We would go through tons!! I find cups all over the house and if I'd go into every room including basement, attic, garage, and vehicles, I'm sure my cupboard would be full!!! But I got some more today to hold us over when they are scattered all about...:)
We also got some different stuff for Jenika's Indian and Pilgrim day coming up this week. She wants to dress up like an Indian girl and I had to rack my brain quickly as to what to wear her??? I got a few brown shirts and a skirt which we cut fringes into and made a head band with part of the one shirt. Could get interesting...We are still not done with it:)
I remember when Jordan did his Indian and Pilgrim day and he had no idea what he was going to wear and the day was coming close. He is the type that needs to know way ahead of time and it was coming down to the wire for him! I got to sewing one afternoon when he was in school and by the time he got home I had his outfit complete, he was so thrilled with it!! I felt like super mom that day...:) It's amazing what we can do if we just take the time to do it and it means so much to them...;)
Justin enjoyed his time at the mountains with my dad and Allen. This was a cabin I went to as a child and all my growing up years, it has been so many years since I have been there, I almost forget what it looks like. It was great that Justin got to spend time there. Thanks for taking him with dad and Allen he enjoyed every minute of it!
I got a nine mile run Saturday morning and mom was here getting the kids breakfast when I got back...;) I then showered and made her and I a healthy breakfast which we sat down to eat together...:) Thanks for coming Mom!
It was fun having her and Marilyn's boys here overnight Friday night. After Jordan and Mark shot the deer it was hard to wind them down and since they slept in the basement I have no idea what time they went to bed...:) The kids all went to bed beautifully for me then Saturday night at seven o'clock if that tells you anything...??:) I waited up for Dave so I had three and a half hours to myself. I got caught up on the Beth Moore David study we are doing at Ladies Bible Study. (which I an very much enjoying)
Sunday we had a great day of fun and fellowship. It was a church day and the day talked much about the "distractions" around us during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. H.K. had a great message on the temptations we face in life as Christians everyday. It was another great reminder how we can't let our guards down as soon as we become born again Christians. The narrow way takes constant awareness and the way is hard.
We were then invited to the basement for lunch! Thanks Herbie's and Les's!! I love when I don't need to make Sunday lunch! They were serving the youth for lunch and since we stayed until almost last they were inviting people to the basement to eat the left over food...:)
Sunday evening Dave and I sat out in the tree stand along the field and watched the deer come out! It is fun to do this once or so every season when the deer are moving. We watched two doe and a buck come out. Dave was grunting some but they seemed distracted and never came close like he wanted them to. We then headed off to church for evening service.
The church evening service was put on by the children! It was a great program that Merv Beiler got together. He is so gifted in the area of children and this short service had so much meaning! Again talking about the distractions that take place over Thanksgiving and Christmas.
A little on how the program went...
First Merv asked the children if they had any songs they wanted to sing? Somebody said number 53. I said to myself "no doubt that was Jenika!" They were to pick a song they knew by heart so Merv then looked back at us like "ok which song book?" I said "songs of life and praise" I knew because we have this song book and also use it at church and since this is her favorite song from a way back already I knew she wanted to sing "Be Ready When He Comes" So we sang it and a few other children then picked some kids songs.:)
Merv then had all the children sit on the front bench at church and he was talking to them about the meaning of "Thanksgiving" He was asking the children questions and then letting them answer in the mike, they were doing great until Danny and Rachel Ann came walking up the center, him wearing a football jersey and her carrying lots of Thanksgiving goodies to prepare her Thanksgiving meal! He was then cheering his football team loudly while she was clattering her pots and pans preparing her meal.(Remember the children were being asked questions and told not to be distracted!:)
Next came the Christmas story by Merv. Again the questions to the children and they got to share the answers...:) Soon along comes a Christmas tree which was being decorated with balls and lights right in front of the children! Then comes some noisy shoppers with arms full of shopping goodies, they are chattering away about the good deals they got and who they are buying what for!! Then comes people up front to wrap gift after many gift! Then believe it or not there comes Santa Clause! With a sack over his back!! Do you think the children were paying any attention to Merv at this point as he was telling them more of the Christmas story?? Amidst the clatter and noise??
The moral of the story was not to forget the true meaning of the wonderful seasons that God has blessed us with. They were not saying any of these things are wrong as we celebrate but just to remember not to get so busy and involved and stressed that we forget the true meaning!! It was so good and the children even got to enjoy a snack ~without the adults~ in the basement after the service, for the good job they did on trying not to get "Distracted"!
Thanks Merv and Sue for all you put into this and the great reminder not to get to distracted as we prepare for Thanksgiving and Christmas! I want to savor every minute...:)
Yesterday was back to routine and after having four days off of school it was kind of a jolt. Ladies Bible Study was the start to my week and I always love weeks that start out Mondays with Ladies Bible Study. Mom then had a Pampered Chef Party at her house where we had a yummy lunch! Thanks Cordelia! She even made mom an extra sandwich ring for her supper!...:)
I have an issue going on in Jordan and Javons room right now!! For a long time now Jordan has been coming up with all kinds of open bites on his skin! They seem to be bites that break open and he has many scars and marks all over his skin! I thought it was just another one of his health issues that we need to work with and we faithfully put stuff on his skin and he takes Omega 3's and vitamin C's for the last month or more in hopes that his skin will get better. I recently noticed Javon having bite looking things to!! He seems to wake up every morning with more bites! Though his often are not broke open they are still bites of some kind! All over his legs mostly!! I have stripped there bed stuff and aired out there room. I do faithfully wash Jordan's sheets often so I can't see this will make a difference? We have moved Javon to Jenika's room for now and Jordan ids on the air mattress in the sun room. They have no new bites today!! Could it be bed bugs???!!! I'm not sure where to go from here??? We told Justin to sleep in the there for one night to see if he gets bites, but he says "No Way!" You go ahead and be the guinea pig!!..:) We are leaving the room empty for now!??
Jordans medication shipment has arrived today reminding us of his upcoming infusion later this week! We are praying Susie will be able to get the IV in on the first try this time!
My big boys are out hunting together... Justin thinks Jordan might bring him good luck...:) Dave just got in so I'm off to finish supper...
Jordan and Mark helped mom with her leaves this week one day... Can you see them here!!...?:)
Have a Blessed evening...
