Treatment Day...
It went well... It took about four and a half hours. It was James again... He did great finding a vein the first time again. Jordan breaths a bit easier when this part is through...;)
Jordan had a better week. He seems more relaxed with not having sweets or snacks. We are adjusting fine, I find it easier and easier to prepare his food. I get more creative with vegetables then I ever have before!! Today when I handed Jordan his lunch dish as he was hooked up I asked "Nurse James" if he wanted anything? He looked at Jordan's dish and said that smells amazing, I'll try that! He said "Wow that was wonderful!" when he handed me the empty dish back!
This new way of food preparation has been good for all of us! I am finding healthier alternatives to the bad foods that make food taste wonderful! I'm finding food can taste really amazing made with ALL healthy ingredients! I love the challenge of throwing healthy foods together and tweaking things to make it taste great! I found when grilling meat on the grill this is half the flavor right there...:) Jordan loves his meat on the grill!
Jordan lost three more pounds this week giving a total of fourteen now! He feels better and we can tell this is what his body needed a long time ago!! We are so proud of you Jordan!!
I will share his lunch dish with you all... maybe you will be brave like him...:)...
I salted and grilled a few boneless chicken thighs. (I cut off all fat first)
I cut up in small pieces... Cabbage, celery, snow peas, onions and grilled it in coconut oil. (I added a tiny bit of water to) grilled this for about five minutes. I added a handful or so of rice that I had in the fridge. (plain white rice) grilled it all together until hot and the veggies were tender yet crisp. I put it in a fancy small glass bowl and added the grilled chicken that was cut up in pieces to the top.
That was it!
I made Dave a dish of this to, he had Marie Sharps hot sauce added to his and he to said it was really good! Nothing fancy but getting a bit creative with the veggies makes a great dish. Salt is basically the only seasoning I use on Jordan's dishes. I had been using some basil but he seemed to get tired of it.
I cut up cabbage, celery, snow peas and put it in a bowl in the fridge, just to have when I need to whip up something quick. We almost always have rice made and in the fridge to. Just plain with rice or coconut milk added, We mix up all the kinds that are available and the brown and white.
Rice is also great to add to many more things then I imagined! Eggs (duck for Jordan) goes great mixed in with this mixture of veggies and rice to, on a bed of soft lettuce, like Jordan's favorite (bib lettuce) He seems to have created a taste for olive oil! His drizzles this on many of his dishes! Lemons are juiced here on a daily basis to. He does not go hungry and still enjoys eating but it's just healthy food and he is even surprised how good it can really taste.
We are anticipating a visit to CHOP in March to see what Jordan's blood counts are and because of weight loss they will most likely reduce the medication some. We are excited to see what this new diet will do for his immune system! We are feeling BLESSED!!
On another note we are so enjoying this SNOW on the ground!! It's more crusty and icy now since the ice storm and it makes great sledding!! The kids spend hours on the hill between us and Jonathan's!!
Here comes Justin flying down the hill and yes that is only a T-shirt!! The sun was shining so perfectly yesterday afternoon and here on this part of the hill they are protected from the wind so it made for a sunny warm feeling along with the sledding!! The kids sometimes say they wish we could have snow in 80 degree weather but this is close enough I guess...:)
Dave has a spot in mind over in our old neighborhood to take them to this evening for some more sledding, more of the "Dave style" sledding!! Oh My!! Will they ever be content with our hill here again?? ~sigh~
Yesterday was the only full normal day of school that we had!! Javon had no school all week and the other kids had either no school or delays all week to! The electricity was out at school on Thursday and even though the roads were clear we were not able to have school because of power outage! I did tell the kids that I have had enough of this messing around now though (no routine and not much gets done here on snow days!) so if you want to be home from school today again you will need to play outside or else help we work in the house!! This is the day they spent most of the day sledding...:) They were afraid I'd have them wiping up floors if they came inside...:) #theydidhelpto!
Running views have been stunning and breathtaking!! Magical!!... I got about eighteen miles in this week all together and the cold is worth it because the sun is perfect!...:) Lately everyday here starts with a lovely sunrise and bright blue skies! I thought this morning when I was still in bed that if I get up early I can catch the sunrise on my run... Forgetting even that there is not always one. The day is cloudy here so I was disappointed not to see a lovely sunrise while running this morning. (four miles) It was still good to be out this morning. Dave was out to but he caught up with Jonathan and ran with him...:)
We are ready for guests here tomorrow...:) Our Aquire party takes place tomorrow afternoon and evening. I came home with the groceries and Jordan came to help me with my bags like he always does. (he does this more to see what I got then to be helpful I think...:) Either way I'll take it:))
The bags of groceries I came home with for this party were so not Jordan friendly! I told him this right from the start as he came to help me unload!! Why do I still by so much junk food when having guests?? Soda, chips, dip, pretzel bark, just to name a few! We are looking forward to hosting this clan and I'm having fun preparing junk food again...~#smile~ I also have some fruit and veggies in the mix...
Do I stay here and prepare more for the party or do I go along to the old neighborhood to sled?? Tough decision...:) I hate to miss the fun and somebody got to capture the moments on camera so I'll most likely join in. Feeling unconcerned about the dirty windows and piled laundry but it can wait..:)
Have a BLESSED week-end...
