I did so much research at the computer today, I ordered a few cookbooks that will be Jordan friendly but since I'm not a cookbook person I'm not sure how this will go!? I studied and researched the foods that he can't have and how to read food labels carefully. Many of the ingredients he can't have tend to hide in so many of the foods! I find I will need to carefully make everything from scratch for awhile! Since Jordan's food allergies go beyond just gluten I find I have my hands a bit tied sometimes!
I wanted to go to Wegman's today, I figured I'd pick up Javon at preschool (He was so happy to return again!) and we would go to Wegman's from there. The research and label reading thing I was researching told me that this will be a long grocery outing, I decided to leave Javon with Rachel Ann and I spent almost three hours at Wegman's! I didn't even get a whole lot of stuff but it was more of an education then anything! I'm learning...:) It will be challenging but I'm as ready as I will get and so is Jordan...:)
Thanks Rachel Ann for having Javon! He said on the way home...The best part of my day was shooting a squirrel with Danny!! He said I don't think he even felt hurt cause he was just crawling along in the tree when he just all the sudden fell out dead!...:) He also said I wish we lived in the "jungle" like they do, then we could shoot squirrels to!!...:) I gathered he meant the woods...:) He loves baby Ava to!...
I decided while I was on the road to check out a place over close to dads that I knew had ducks for some reason. I remembered back in the day wondering why they have so many ducks on the pasture when most Amish places have chickens.? I drove over there and even though I had never seen a sign for duck eggs for sale TODAY there was a sign there, it said "duck eggs for sale"!! I took it as a God given gift...:)
I knocked on the door and this Amish lady comes to the door with a screaming baby in her arms!! We start to talk and I tell her a bit about Jordan and his allergies and how these duck eggs of theirs is a God thing to me! Since I cannot seem to find them anywhere else!
She tells me she has three children ages 5, 3, and 3 months and they are not very healthy. Her babies are so fussy and her young children seem to have a constant cough, sneezes, trouble breathing and sometimes pneumonia to! All the while her baby is screaming away as we are talking!! She kept dipping his nuk in apple sauce to quiet him for just a few seconds!
Finally I just took him from her to see if I could help... After looking up at me a few times and taking a few deep breaths he was asleep within minutes! I stood in her kitchen for almost an hour holding her sleeping baby while she told me about her children's issues and even herself to! (I never met the woman!) She does not even do her own laundry because she is so busy with her children (mostly her baby)
Her house looked overwhelming with dishes, laundry and many more unfinished projects going on!!
I walked in on an exhausted mother today and she just talked and talked!! She said nobody seems to understand! She said everybody wants to tell her she should do this and that and she has tried so many things! Her children take vitamins and have had numerous tests done with Doctors and Hospitals! I gathered they spend a lot of money which they can't afford, yet they don't want hospital bills either! She looked at me and pleadingly and asked "Why are so many people food intolerant and sick??" And what do we do about it!?
She wanted answers and me being new to this whole gluten/egg/dairy/sugars thing I didn't feel like I had answers at all! I feel helpless to at times! Yet I feel blessed to be able to work with Jordan's allergies and now with knowing what they are it is so much easier, even though it will be tough at times!
I felt leaving there today that I was in a much different spot then this young mother who is saying "no more babies if they need to suffer this way" She did say they are waiting on food allergy test results done on her this week. They think she might have allergies to something and her children most likely have the same thing.
Anyway I did come home with six duck eggs to try, she didn't let me pay because she said I did her a huge favor by putting her baby to sleep! I think it was a God thing that I even stopped in there today! I do not know this woman's name but I will be praying for her and you are welcome to join me!!
Jordan's infusion has come through to! After much prayer and phone calls/emails we got his treatment scheduled for tomorrow! He is ready! I think with all the travels he got low faster? He has eyes that are pasting closed. He has a cough I don't like. I was nervous about putting his treatment off to long because of this! The insurance company that we now have him on requests a slightly different antibody. He is now getting Gammaplex, starting tomorrow he will get Gamunex. The two are similar and both good yet there are different side affects so we are praying all will go well!
Another thing we are sad about is this now means a new nurse! Susie worked for the pharmacy that shipped Jordan's medication all this time and now because we switched pharmacies we also need to have a new nurse! We loved Susie!! She was part of us!! The pharmacy that we had was "out of network" with this new insurance company so it didn't make sense for us to stay with them. It's so complicated at times and all the different processes that these meds need to take before they enter Jordan's body has us feeling a bit handicap to the system at times, yet it is a HUGE BLESSING to!!
I will most likely wait a bit to see how these new medications do for Jordan before staring his cleanse stuff. He will be taking powders and pills and I want to make sure these medications work good before starting something else new in his body. We hoped to start Monday but I'm not sure yet? I have many foods to replace things he cannot have so we will try to at least stay off of the foods he will need to be off of while cleansing and then starting him taking the powders and pills when I feel he is ready to be really ready! He will miss fruit for sure!! I'm still not at all sure how we will replace this!!
Dave has started his intense "Goals Sessions" this evening. He is three hours behind me so when he called a bit ago it was still daylight and only four thirty there! He will check his phone on breaks but if they get caught with a phone going off even on vibrate they get a fine that goes towards a good cause in the end!! This is serious stuff I guess! It has to do with financial, marriage, spiritual, and parenting goals, or goals of any kind thus being a "Goals Retreat". His small group buddies are all there to so it's also kind of a reunion I guess?...:). Anyway we miss you Hon and hope you soak it up and then hurry home.:)
I'm off to get my kiddos and myself to bed. I'm hoping for a run again tomorrow! It's been to long since I ran on a good hard road! I'm sure I will be puffing along since I'm out of it for to long!
We are feeling so BLESSED...
Thinking of the Amish woman I met today... I wish to take more time for people like her!... God help me notice the needs of others like her more!
I need to work on this one daily... Especially when I see my son getting sick as he awaits his antibodies... And also when I'm in a taxi in Mexico in the dark, with Jenika and Justin. The driver looks grumpy and speaks not a word of my language! We were to follow the taxi car ahead of us carrying my husband and two other children when all of the sudden our car does a complete u turn and takes off at a fast speed down the back ally ways and streets! For fifteen or so minutes! Dark/back streets/ Mexico/no phone/no money/scary! I prayed!! We reached our destination safely and Dave's car came a few minutes later so I guess my "grumpy looking/speaky no English" taxi dude knew a short cut to "Holiday Inn"! Talk about loss of control!? That was it! Dave and I looked at each other after we saw each other again and said "That was not Okay!"
We had God's leading guiding hand with us as we travled the past weeks and we felt it again and again!... What a mighty God we serve!
