Bread is baked, bed sheets washed and put back on beds, wash folded, grapes ordered, floors swept and wiped up, (party time was a messy one) dishwasher emptied, A lesson done in my David study, a small part of our church fall cleaning. All done while Javon was in school!! I think those three hours alone got me a head start to my week...:)
Now I'm trying to figure out if my life reflects more a Martha or a Mary?? This morning would sound like a Martha yet in the quietness of my busyness I can still find time to converse with my Lord, I think we have an advantage over Mary because we have Jesus right next to us no matter what we are doing. singing him praises as we work and talking to him can come really natural in our busyness if we recognize that he is right here with us. Mary got to sit at his feet though! That must have been really amazing to! To read this story go to Luke 10: 38-42 in your Bible.
Do the Mary's of this world make more work for the Martha's? We all long to be a Mary but why is it so hard? Duties have a way of getting us busy, yet when thinking deeper about it, are they really more important then time spent with our Lord?
I want to be an outstanding Mom, wife, sister, daughter, friend, and neighbor yet how do we do this without getting wrapped up in being a Martha?
I want to be a servant for my Lord and not taking the time to be a Mary will not be a good way to know what he wants from my life and how he wants me to serve others.
Making my husband and children my mission at this point in my life is sometimes all the farther that I get, then God reminds me "This is enough". I want to be "supermom" yet I have to admit my many failures that are often a result of being to much of a Martha and not enough of a Mary. My prayer many mornings is "Lord slow me down so I don't miss what you ask of me this day."
As a Wife and Mother we will mess up and have bad days, but I've learned in the bad days there is always tomorrow. Another try, another chance, another day full of opportunity. And I'm glad because this morning was one of those "hustle Javon out the door to school mornings!" I kept hustling him and he had no hustle in him (or so it seemed)! I kept telling him his friends will all be there already so he needs to move faster... Poor guy! It was my bad for not waking him up earlier. (I'm learning with both of my Little's! Earlier, Earlier, wake up times!) I felt so bad after I had him dropped off "that I hustled him like that"... Why do we always think about our actions after it's to late to change them? I wished I had just helped him get dressed and picked up after him instead of making him do it himself and make him late. Glad for new opportunity tomorrow...:)
Opportunity... What a fabulous and sometimes forgotten word in this motherhood journey. So often we spend time thinking about all we should be doing, or could be doing, or should have done, or could have done, that we lose the beauty of the word opportunity... Opportunity means... Now, today, tomorrow, we have a chance to try again. It doesn't mean it has to be perfect - it's just an opportunity to give it another shot.
Motherhood is full of opportunities.
Every day is another opportunity. So the bad days happen but that does not take away the opportunity from tomorrow. Or the afternoon. Or the next minute. It's about learning, giving yourself grace, and letting your kids see you try again.
Let us love those around us... Slow down and recognize the opportunities around us. Learn from our mistakes, not be to proud to say "I'm sorry". We only get one shot at this motherhood thing and we all want to do it right, yet in our human flesh we will fail... But we need to press on towards the ultimate goal... Together in Heaven!!
Have a blessed Monday...
